Here, we chronicle the journey of Bagh-e-Ayesha from its inception to its current status.

 2002 - The Stepping Stone

The story of Bagh-e-Ayesha began in 2002, a year that marked the establishment of this noble institution. Our founder ‘Mrs. Zeba Quadri’ D/o Hazrat Allama Arshadul Quadri recognized the dire need for education and skill development among girls in the community. With a clear vision and unwavering determination, she laid the foundation of Bagh-e-Ayesha, initially offering skill development classes and basic Arabic/Urdu courses. These early classes were designed to provide a strong foundation in language and practical skills, crucial for the empowerment of women in their personal and professional lives.

The response from the community was overwhelming, and the institution quickly garnered a student strength of over 550. This initial success was a testament to the community's recognition of the value of education and skill development for girls.

 2008 - New Beginning

As Bagh-e-Ayesha grew, so did its ambitions and scope. By 2008, the institution had taken a significant step forward by introducing full-time Arabic courses (Aalima) and establishing hostel facilities for its students. This expansion was driven by the growing demand for comprehensive Islamic education and the need to provide a conducive learning environment for students from different regions.

The Aalima courses were designed to offer an in-depth understanding of Arabic language and Islamic theology, preparing students for roles as religious scholars and educators. The addition of hostel facilities was a critical development, enabling girls from distant areas to pursue their education without the constraints of travel and accommodation. This step marked a new beginning for Bagh-e-Ayesha, solidifying its commitment to providing quality education and holistic development for girls.

 2011 - The Recognition

In 2011, Bagh-e-Ayesha achieved a significant milestone by securing official registration under the Society Registration Act of 1860. This recognition by the Indian government was a pivotal moment in the institution's history. It provided Bagh-e-Ayesha with a formal identity and a legal framework to operate and expand its activities.

The registration under the Society Registration Act also brought with it increased credibility and visibility. It opened doors to new opportunities for collaboration, funding, and support from governmental and non-governmental organizations. This recognition was a testament to the institution's adherence to high standards of education and its commitment to the welfare of its students.

 2014 - The Benchmark

By 2014, Bagh-e-Ayesha had established itself as a reputable institution dedicated to the promotion of education and empowerment of girls. This year marked another significant milestone with the institution receiving recognition and affiliation from the National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL). The affiliation with NCPUL was a significant achievement, as it provided an official endorsement of the quality and relevance of the courses offered by Bagh-e-Ayesha.

The affiliation with NCPUL brought numerous benefits, including access to resources, training programs, and academic support. It also enhanced the institution's ability to attract students and faculty, further strengthening its academic offerings. This benchmark recognition was a validation of Bagh-e-Ayesha's efforts to promote Urdu language and literature, and it reinforced the institution's commitment to preserving and promoting cultural heritage through education.

 2018 - The Transformation

This transformation was driven by the need to modernize the institution's teaching methods and make education more accessible and engaging for students. The adoption of digital tools and technologies was a game-changer, enabling the institution to offer a more interactive and personalized learning experience.

Smart classrooms equipped with the latest technology provided students with access to a wealth of information and resources. Digital platforms facilitated online learning, enabling students to continue their education from anywhere, anytime. This transformation not only enhanced the quality of education but also prepared students for the demands of the modern world, where digital literacy is crucial.

 2022 - The Attainment

The year 2022 was marked by significant achievements for Bagh-e-Ayesha. The institution secured 12A and 80G registrations under the Income Tax Act, which were crucial for its financial sustainability and growth. The 12A registration allowed Bagh-e-Ayesha to receive tax-exempt status, enabling it to utilize its resources more effectively for educational and developmental purposes.

The 80G registration was equally important, as it allowed donors to receive tax deductions for their contributions to Bagh-e-Ayesha. This incentivized donations and increased the institution's ability to attract financial support from individuals and organizations. These attainments were critical for the institution's long-term sustainability and its ability to expand its programs and services.

 2023 - Brickstone Ceremony

In 2023, Bagh-e-Ayesha reached another significant milestone with the acquisition of a plot for the development of Bagh-e-Ayesha Modern Islamic Education. This step marked the beginning of a new chapter in the institution's history, symbolized by the Brickstone Ceremony. The acquisition of land was a crucial step towards realizing the vision of a modern educational facility that would provide comprehensive and holistic education to girls.

Additionally, in 2023, Bagh-e-Ayesha received FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) registration, enabling it to receive foreign contributions. This registration was a major achievement, as it opened up new avenues for funding and collaboration with international organizations. It allowed Bagh-e-Ayesha to expand its reach and impact, furthering its mission of empowering women and promoting education.

 CHALLENGES.

Challenges in India's Education System: Impact on Girls

India, with its diverse population and vast geographic landscape, faces significant challenges in providing quality education to all its citizens. The impact of these challenges is particularly pronounced among girls, who often encounter additional barriers due to socio-cultural norms, economic constraints, and gender biases. This report delves into the key issues affecting the education system in India, with a focus on how these issues impact girls. It includes statistical data and graphical representations to provide a comprehensive understanding of the situation.

Key Challenges in India's Education System

1. Access to Education

2. Quality of Education

3. Economic Barriers

4. Socio-Cultural Barriers

5. Infrastructure and Resources

6. Teacher Quality and Training

 1. Access to Education

 Enrollment Rates

Despite efforts to improve enrollment rates, a significant number of children, particularly girls, remain out of school. According to the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) 2020-21, the overall gross enrollment ratio (GER) for primary education (Grades 1-5) is 102.7%, but it drops significantly at higher education levels.

- Primary Level (Grades 1-5): 102.7%

- Upper Primary (Grades 6-8): 92.5%

- Secondary (Grades 9-10): 80.4%

- Higher Secondary (Grades 11-12): 56.5%

 Dropout Rates

High dropout rates, especially among girls, are a persistent issue. The dropout rate at the secondary level is particularly concerning.

- Primary Level (Grades 1-5): 2.5%

- Upper Primary (Grades 6-8): 4.3%

- Secondary Level (Grades 9-10): 17.9%

 2. Quality of Education

 Learning Outcomes

The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2021 highlights that a significant proportion of students in India lack basic reading and arithmetic skills.

- Grade 5 students who can read Grade 2 level text: 50.5%

- Grade 5 students who can do basic arithmetic (division): 26.1%

These figures are even lower for girls in rural areas, indicating a substantial gender gap in learning outcomes.

 3. Economic Barriers

 Poverty and Education

Economic constraints are a major barrier to education for many families. According to the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) 2017-18, around 25% of Indian families live below the poverty line. This economic hardship often forces families to prioritize immediate financial needs over education, disproportionately affecting girls.

 4. Socio-Cultural Barriers

 Gender Discrimination

Traditional gender roles and discrimination significantly hinder girls' education. Early marriage and child labor are prevalent issues. According to UNICEF, India has the highest number of child brides in the world, with 1.5 million girls married before the age of 18 each year.

 5. Infrastructure and Resources

 School Facilities

Many schools, especially in rural areas, lack basic infrastructure. According to UDISE 2020-21, only 74% of schools in India have access to electricity, and 64% have functional toilets for girls.

 6. Teacher Quality and Training

 Teacher Shortages and Training

India faces a severe shortage of trained teachers. The Pupil-Teacher Ratio (PTR) in many states exceeds the recommended level of 30:1. According to UDISE 2020-21, the national average PTR is 32:1 at the primary level and 30:1 at the upper primary level.

 Conclusion

India's education system faces numerous challenges that disproportionately impact girls. Despite improvements in enrollment rates, issues such as high dropout rates, poor learning outcomes, economic barriers, socio-cultural norms, inadequate infrastructure, and teacher shortages persist. Addressing these challenges requires a multi-faceted approach, including policy reforms, increased funding, community engagement, and targeted programs to support girls' education.

Efforts must focus on improving access to quality education, enhancing infrastructure, providing economic support to families, and combating gender discrimination. By doing so, India can move towards a more equitable and effective education system that empowers all children, especially girls, to achieve their full potential.
